Why technical computing should be taught in schools

Technical computing is used in our day to day lives all the time and often we are not even aware of it. Computers run a number of different processes every day and if you are not looking out for them, you may not even realise that a computer is behind a certain process.

The search engines such as Google and Bing use technical computing to manage their algorithm for ranking websites. The program that has been written looks at a website, essentially giving it a score for different elements. It checks the list against a list of points it has been told are good and if the site complies to these, it will be listed higher on the search engine results.

Many of the phone applications we use day to day also use technical computing. Any site or app that requires up to log in has a program written to check that the credentials that we added in match what they should. It is set up to manage a series of different events and depending on what is input, sow different results.

As technical computing is used every day in our lives it is important that children learn about it and how they can use it to help solve problems. It is likely that it is going to be used more and more so it is definitely an important skill to learn and understand.
