Engineers create new facemasks

Engineers have been busy over this last 12 months trying to create machinery and equipment that can help with the Coronavirus pandemic. The latest advance that has been created by a team of engineers in America is a facemask which may actually be able to detect Covid. If this design is proven to work then it could help early detection whilst keeping others safe and controlling the spread.

The mask is said to cost as little as £3 to make. After wearing the mask for around 4-5 hours there is said to be enough particles for Covid to be detected if you have it or even if you have spent a period of time with someone who has got it. The wearer of the mask would have to crack a blister pack attached to the front of the mask which would then leak a fluid out which can trace the presence of protein created by the virus.

The idea is that you would wear these types of masks every day as you would with the masks we use at the moment, but similar to how a smoke detector works, should the virus be detected, the mask strip would change colour.
